Did you celebrate April Fools’ Day with some fun pranks on family and friends? Companies do this every year to have a little fun with their audience.
The first day of April is meant to be fun, lighthearted, and enjoyable with a few pranks and jests that make it easy to experience some fun at the expense of others. Many companies celebrate April Fools’ Day with strange news that isn’t true or some interesting antics. Some people take these pranks seriously, which takes the fun out of them, but most understand most of the information and news they find on April 1 isn’t real.
Worst: Nerds Chicken
Have Nerds gone too far? The candy brand announced a “Sweet & Crunchy” chicken variety featuring fried chicken coated in the colorful candy that many people love. The Nerds-glazed chicken tenders coated with 31 herbs and spices makes it sound a lot like a famous chicken restaurant has gone crazy. There’s a whole line of Nerds chicken items including the Nerds Gummy Chicken Sandwich with pickles and a Nerds dipping sauce. This unappetizing prank has our collective stomachs churning.
Best: AI for Dogs
One of the most fun and interesting April Fools’ Day pranks to go viral came from ElevenLabs. The company advertised a system to translate barks from dogs into the native language of a country, making it much easier for people to communicate with their furry friends. This would be fantastic if it weren’t a joke, but just about anything with dogs involved is going to rank near the top of the list when it comes to some of the best ads, even of those ads are false pranks.
Worst: Cadbury Eggs On the Go
Food seems to hit the worst pranks pretty hard, and with Easter right around the corner, a Cadbury Crème Egg on the go is an interesting entry. The company is advertising a sauce packet, kind of like the Taco Bell sauces, with the sugary, gooey center from the Cadbury Eggs inside the packet. This could be good for someone who doesn’t like chocolate, but it seems almost criminal to separate the chocolate from the gooey center.
Best: Grass Patterns from Husqvarna
Every year, we hear about cornfields that have been cut down in peculiar shapes that almost make it seem like aliens have landed and carved a space in the field. Husqvarna took this idea and applied it to grass, offering an April Fools’ Day prank with the company logo mowed into grass and shown from above. This is a great way for the company to pus their new lawnmower line and promotes real products in a fun way, unlike some of the other pranks.
Worst: Indian Food Flavored Ice Cream
Indian food is typically spicy and delicious, leaving diners sweating and hot after a meal. Many people enjoy this food but want a way to cool down after a meal. Why not combine the cooling sensation of ice cream with Indian Food? It seems pretty obvious, this is disgusting. Can you imagine having Chicken Curry ice cream? The flavors wouldn’t work. While its ok to combine some things, its also a good idea to keep other items separated from each other, especially Indian food and ice cream.
Best: Aura Mood Ring
Mood crystals, rings, and other items that are supposed to change colors with our moods have existed for centuries. As part of the April Fools’ Day festivities, Oura gave us the new Aura Ring. This ring is supposed to be the first mood-sensing smart ring, but its not real. The claim is that it monitors various bodily items that would contribute to a smart mood ring, but the company hid the joke in the third slide with a joke chart of emotional spectrum classifications.
Worst: Dark Humor Touching Grass
Touching Grass is the new statement being made to tell people they need to get off their smart devices and go outside for a little bit. Some people don’t want to do this, and dBrand has some green grass that you can put on your devices to allow you to touch it. The dark humor part of this is the message that basically tells you that if you don’t go outside and spend some time in nature, you’ll be part of it and won’t have to worry about touching grass. A bit dark, even for the day of pranks.
April Fools’ Day is a day of fun and pranks. Many companies get in on the fun; some hit the mark, while others missed the joke and offered some strange creations that we hope will never make it to production. Thankfully, all of these items are jokes.
